Sporting clays competitor mounted on a shotgun at a station, orange clay target in flight over a misty range

You already know you missed. Do you know why?

The same target keeps beating you for the same reason — and it usually falls into one of six identifiable miss categories. ClayMaster's video analysis works out which one, then gives you the drills to work on it.

The problem

More shells is not a diagnosis

You shoot the same course, burn through another flat, and the crosser on station four still gets away.

Someone on the squad says give it more lead. Someone else says less. Both are guessing — and so are you.

A miss is information, but only if you can name it. Until then, practice is repetition — and repeating the wrong move just makes it permanent.

The framework

Six miss categories

Every broken target is a chain of small decisions. When one breaks, the miss tends to fall into one of these six. Naming it is what makes it trainable.

  1. 01

    Planning error

Hold point, break point or foot position set up wrong before the call — the shot was lost before the target launched.

  2. 02

    Visual discipline

Eyes leaving the target, checking the barrel, or picking the bird up too early in the window.

  3. 03

    Timing breakdown

Mount, move and trigger pull arriving out of sequence, so the gun is never truly with the target.

  4. 04

    Speed mismatch

Gun speed that does not match target speed — riding the bird or racing past it at the moment of the shot.

  5. 05

    Target line misread

Reading the line as flatter, steeper or straighter than it is, which sends the shot off the true path.

  6. 06

    Pressure / sequence breakdown

The routine that works in practice coming apart on report pairs, true pairs, or under a scorecard.

The process

How the coaching works

  1. 01

    Send your video

Film a station from behind on your phone. Nothing special, no range time booked with a coach.

  2. 02

    Get the diagnosis

Your footage is reviewed against the six miss categories, so you learn which one is actually costing you the target.

  3. 03

    Work the matching drills

You get the drills and instruction that address that category — 13 drills and 12+ instructional videos in the library.

Built for competitors

  • You have stalled at the same score band and cannot see what changed.
  • One presentation — a driven bird, a battue, a long crosser — keeps costing you the card.
  • Your practice rounds look nothing like your registered rounds.
  • There is no coach within a sensible drive, and lessons are hard to schedule anyway.

Stop guessing at your misses.

Pick Classic or Pro, monthly or annual, and start putting a name to the target that keeps beating you.
